Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir

She painted queens. Not allegorical queens but people. And the wine on this label was made with the same conviction: that ordinary things, treated with extraordinary care, become something that endures.

Anderson Valley sits tucked between redwood-dense hills in Mendocino County, accessible only through narrow roads that feel like the world is trying to keep you out. It is one of the most remote winemaking regions in California and one of the most extraordinary. The valley cuts laterally through the coastal range, putting the western vineyards just ten miles from the cold Pacific. Fog rolls in every morning. Temperature swings forty to fifty degrees between dawn and dusk. That dramatic diurnal shift is everything for Pinot Noir.

The 2020 vintage arrived carrying the weight of an extraordinary year. A dry winter led to early bud break. Wildfires threatened much of California's wine country, but Anderson Valley's remoteness worked in the vintage's favor. The yields were small. The fruit that made it through was concentrated, deeply flavored, and defined by the tension only a difficult year can produce. Every bottle from this vintage is fewer than it might have been, which means every bottle matters more.
