Accessibility Statement

Art Council Wines is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone — regardless of ability, technology, or circumstance. This statement outlines what we have done, what we are working toward, and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.

Last Reviewed: May 2026

1. Our Commitment

Art Council Wines believes that every person — regardless of ability, disability, or the assistive technology they use — deserves equal access to our wines, our artists, our stories, and our brand. Inclusion is not a footnote in our mission. It is embedded in it.

We are actively working to ensure that artcouncilwines.com conforms to recognized accessibility standards, and that every interaction with our Site — from browsing the collection to completing a purchase — is as seamless as possible for all visitors.

We welcome feedback. If you encounter any barrier on our Site or need content in an alternative format, please contact us directly. We will respond within 2 business days and work with you to find a solution. If a barrier prevents you from completing a purchase, we will process your order by phone.

2. Conformance Standard

Art Council Wines aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

WCAG 2.1 Level AA: Our target conformance standard · W3C Web Accessibility Initiative

WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applied to websites, and by California's Unruh Civil Rights Act. Meeting this standard means our Site should be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for the widest possible range of users.

3. Measures Taken

Art Council Wines has taken the following steps to support accessibility across the Site:

  • Semantic HTML structure: Pages use proper heading hierarchy (H1–H3), landmark regions, and meaningful element labeling to support screen reader navigation.
  • Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements. Our primary palette has been evaluated for compliance.
  • Keyboard navigation: The Site can be navigated using a keyboard alone. Focus indicators are clearly visible throughout.
  • Alt text: Product photography, artist portraits, and label images include descriptive alternative text for screen reader users.
  • Form labels: All form fields — including checkout, contact, and membership forms — have associated visible labels and descriptive error messages.
  • Responsive design: The Site functions fully on mobile, tablet, and desktop across all major browsers.
  • No flashing content: We do not use animations or content that flashes more than three times per second.
  • Shopify Dawn theme: Our Site is built on Dawn, which is developed with accessibility as a core principle and undergoes regular audits by Shopify's team.

We will not use your personal information for any purpose not described in this Policy without your prior consent.

4. Current Status

We are in active development. The following reflects our current accessibility status across key areas of the Site:

Complete:

  • Navigation & Structure: Landmark regions, heading hierarchy, and skip links implemented across all pages.
  • Color & Contrast: Text meets AA contrast ratios. Interactive elements are clearly differentiated from the background.
  • Checkout & Forms: All form fields labeled. Error messages are descriptive and associated with fields. Keyboard-navigable throughout.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Art Council Wines, our customers, or others.

In Progress:

  • Product Pages: Alt text on all bottle photography. Tasting notes and artist credits accessible via screen reader.
  • Blog & Editorial Content: Alt text and heading structure are being audited across blog posts on a rolling basis.
  • Video Content: Captions and transcripts will be provided for all video content as it is added to the Site.

We conduct accessibility reviews each time significant changes are made to the Site, and at a minimum, annually.

We will not use your personal information for any purpose not described in this Policy

5. Review Schedule

This Accessibility Statement is reviewed and updated on the following schedule:

  • Annually: Full review of this statement and a Site-wide accessibility audit.
  • After significant updates: Any time a major redesign, new page template, or new third-party integration is launched, an accessibility review is conducted before or shortly after release.
  • In response to feedback: Any reported accessibility issue triggers an immediate review of the affected component.

This statement was last reviewed in May 2026. The next scheduled review is May 2027.
